Stevenage Festival - October 1994

Congratulations to the hundreds of local performers who took part in the Stevenage Festival 1994 (the first one!) - We've left the old programme up for anyone who'd like to reminisce.

The heart of the Festival was a week of performances at the Gordon Craig Theatre (listed below) supported by the 1994 fringe of community arts events.

Stevenage Arts Guild presents:
A Day of Fun and Frolics

The Arts Guild presents all sorts of acts in the Town Cente area - Street Entertainers, Bands playing, dancers dancing, singers singing, painters painting, clowns clowning,poets performing, programmes for the festival being distributed....

Magic and Mystery

Presented by the Ace Magic Club - an afternoon preformance in the GCT.

Stevenage Music Society - Mendelssohn's Elijah

Performed by the Stevenage Music Society Choir with 4 soloists and organ continuo.

Tickets: £6, No Concessions


Mon 10th October at 7:45 pm

Stevenage Scouts present:
A Gang Show

Nationwide the Scout movement was, at this time, renowned for producing A Gang Show of entertainers selected from the body of the Scout movement as a whole. This show was from the Stevenage group providing entertainment for the evening.

Stevenage Lytton Players present:
Murder in Company

The Lytton players have been active in many of our festivals. This play was by Philip King and John Boland.

A dramatic society is assembling on the stage of a church hall to rehearse a mystery thriller under its somewhat dictatorial director Philip Stephens. Philip's wife is too friendly with a young man of the company, a prowler is in the neighborhood and attacks one of the girls, an unpleasant caretaker tries a little blackmail and one of the women seems to know him from the past.

Page Three Big Band

The Band was under the musical direction of Ray Martin and featured and special guests - Tommy Whittle and Barbara Jay (Tommy's wife).

Thu 13th October at 7.45pm

Stevenage Symphony Orchestra

Works performed were Finlandia by Sibelius, The Triple Concerto by Beethoven and Berlioz' Symphony Fantastique.

Fri 14th October at 7.45pm

Stevenage Male Voice Choir and
Stevenage Ladies Choir present:
Together Again

These two Choirs along with The Classic Buskers provided an evening of music of all types.


Sat 15th October at 10.30am

Debra Knight's School of Dancing,
Stevenage Twinning and
Amanmere present:
A Dance Show

These dancing schools combine to provide an afternoon of Dance.

Stevenage Music Centre presents:
A Youth Concert

The young members of the Music Centre performing groups present an afternoon of music.

Stevenage Lytton Players present:
Trial by Jury/ A Grand Night for Singing

Rounding off the theatre performance the Lytton Players perform Gilbert and Sullivan's Trial by Jury and also present music from Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals under the title A Grand Night for Singing.

Stevenage Sports Council present:
Displays and Shows

Over the Friday and Saturday there will be displays and shows in the Gordon Craig Sports Hall.

The demonstartions displays will cover - Trampolining, Fencing, Aerobics, Martial Arts, Wheelchair Footbal, Dancing and Sports Acrobatics.

There will also be static exhibits from the Sports Council, Ramblers Association, Sub Aqua club, Land yachting (with a land yacht there if possible)
